Discipline
is submission to rule; to observe every rule that is necessary to accomplish
what you have set out to do. Discipline is the key to leadership. Leadership is
not about ordering people around and expecting them to obey you. Being a leader
has nothing to do with the title. Leadership begins first with you before it
stretches out to the people. Your level of leadership is measured by your
ability to discipline yourself to follow the same rules you expect others to
follow. It’s impossible to give leadership unless you have set an example. You
cannot expect people to do the things that you are unable to do. Leadership has
a whole lot to do with action than with words. Action speaks louder than words.
The world is not really interested in your words but in your actions. The
reason is because the things you do are more real than the things you say.
People may resist your words but your action is what silences every argument.
Your action is what dissolves every doubt. Your action is what they identify you
with. When there is consistency in your words and your action, you win the
loyalty of those you are leading. The secret to great leadership therefore, is
an exemplary life. Discipline yourself to do the things you expect others to
do. Monday, 12 January 2015
