Problem Solving in Leadership...

Problem solving is one of the most important aspects of leadership. Everything we do in leadership is targeted at solving problems. Effective problem solving requires certain skills that can be developed and mastered over time. You don’t solve a problem backward you solve it forward. You don’t solve a problem first by beginning to give an answer. Doing either of these things only helps in compounding the problem. Below are the primary steps to be adhered to when solving problems: take time to analyze and asses the problem. Nothing happens in isolation. There is no problem without a cause. Every problem we are faced with is a result of several activities. Take your mind back to the things you may have done that has brought about the problem. Until you have all the details you cannot begin to solve a problem. The next thing to do is to digest your findings. In other words, after you have identified the cause of the problem, list in a sequential order the possible actions that will address the issue. When that is done make sure you document your decision.  This will serve as a constant reminder of the things you need to do. Finally, you must prepare for failure. There is no full proof solution. If you are not completely prepared for failure, when you come to the point of not completely solving a problem you will give up. This you can avoid with the aid of a backup plan. Embrace every problem that comes your way and make attempt to solve them.  The more problems you solve as a leader, the more effective you will become.
